Goodrich Day

We have been doing 'Goodrich Day' for a couple of years now. It is a day that we have around Christmas with just us four (now five) Goodrich's. While I love my family and having everyone over for Christmas part of me wants just a little bit of time to celebrate Christmas as just our little family and time to start our own family traditions. Some of my favorite childhood memories are when we 5 kids were all together at our house. It's hard to explain but Christmas is a little different when you do one small family vs everyone all together and in order to get a little bit of each I made up Goodrich Day.

This year the best time worked on a Sunday and since I was recovering and both Davis and I had a cold we did the preparations while the others were at church. Both boys got new PJ's (Davis did have some too but he was wearing them) and presents set out.
This year I decided to try something that Jason said Monte and Cheryl would do with their kids is open the presents gradually throughout the day rather than a crazy frenzy all at once. I liked it a lot. We opened a present played with it for a while then would do another (usually one every  hour or so) while watching Christmas movies and eating homemade chocolate chip cookies in between.

First presents were actually hexbugs but the second were a huge hit, new Magformers which the boys have been getting into lately. They are a little spendy but they love them and I love that they can get creative building and I would much rather spend $ on them than video games or some other sort of media.
We got pearler beads, where you make a design and iron it. The boys love to get crafty and seemed to like them but it is time consuming so it took a bit of encouragement and help to finish up their projects.
Awesome robot and dinosaur stencil kits.

Chill time for Davis. Sorry, not many presents for you but you didn't seem to mind one bit.

They got the game of Battleship which Max has been asking about for a while.
And more holiday movies. Home Alone happened to be on and it was their first time seeing it. I know you can't tell from this particular photo but they giggled a ton during the movie, mostly during the parts where the bad guys get beat up. I should have recorded it. I love watching them watch movies.
This was not on Goodrich Day (I think it was the day after) but Max wanted to stuff a pillow up his shirt and sumo wrestle. Levi was down with it.

And Davis took notes. Soon big brothers, soon.
